wk 1: Inspiration

Favourite Character

Our brief involves designing a character from history to appeal to children. We were asked to think of our favourite character. But the thing is I have loads! The first four that popped into my head were:

2D

Emperor Kuzco from the Emperor’s new groove

I have chosen Kuzco because he is one of the most emotionally dynamic characters I have seen in cartoon. The sheer extremeness of change and expression in his face, which is further enhanced by his hooves.

Asterix from Asterix and Obelix

Asterix has a lot of warmth and lovability which is essential when designing characters for children.

3D

King Julien and Mort from Madagascar

I chose King Julien and Mort because in my opinion they are the two funniest characters in the entire film, and I think that humour will play an important role in engaging children.

Robbie the Reindeer from Robbie the Reindeer!

Robbie is one of my all time favourites for the plain simple fact that it is hilarious and goes to show how an unexpected voice over can dramatically and simply improve an animation which is something I will be looking into.
